I remember when I was a kid playing for hours with these plants in our yard. I have not seen them around in ages. When I came across the TickleMe Plant site I knew my boys would love to grow one and in their words think it was "cool". TickleMe Plant Co. was generous and sent us a TickleMe Plant Mini House that includes a TickleMe Plant Seed packet (Mimosa pudica), 1 Min-House, 1 plastic mini flower pot, and 1 soil pellet. The TickleMe plant is very easy to grow we just followed the instructions and within a few days their was already growth ! Within 3 weeks the leaves will move when tickled. My boys have truly enjoyed the whole process from planting to watching it grow, they even fight over who is going to water it. Everyday they must "tickle" the plant. At night the leaves close up and I tell my 2 yr old it is the TickleMe plant's bed time and it went to sleep.

scientists think that the Mimosa pudica uses its ability to shrink as a defense from predators. Animals may be afraid of such a fast moving plant and would rather go and eat a less active one.
I vaguely remember growing these in grade school & I think it might help with getting my son to go to bed, "the plant is sleeping so now it is time for you to go to sleep" :)
